Type C FIBC Grounding System Scope

A Type C flexible intermediate bulk container (FIBC) grounding system checks electrical contact between the bag’s interwoven conductive threads and its ground connection points, according to Newson Gale’s Grounding & Bonding Applications, Issue 4. It does not validate the bag’s general condition or verify electrical continuity between an inner liner and those threads.

Evaluating an FIBC with a liner under TRGS 727

Rule
TRGS 727, §6.6(8)
Edition
Jan. 2016, corr. July 2016

TRGS 727, the German technical rule on preventing ignition hazards from electrostatic charges, addresses liner use separately. The January 2016 edition, corrected July 2016, requires evaluation of the packaging as a whole when liner bags are used, because the manufacturer’s type classification usually does not cover them.

This is one of the FIBC selection and grounding requirements in section 6.6(8). Annex C also notes that liner bags can change the behavior of a Type C FIBC.
