An ESD flooring data sheet may name standards and claim that a product meets their requirements without providing measured results. Those references alone do not tell the facility what resistance or body voltage was measured, under which conditions, or against which limits.

What does a list of standards establish?
A supplier example: PIP 170 ESD SR
The PIP 170 ESD SR data sheet states, in its list of advantages, that the product meets or exceeds specification under ANSI/ESD STM7.1-2013, ANSI/ESD STM97.1-2015, ANSI/ESD STM97.2-2016 and ANSI/ESD S6.1-2014.
That passage identifies the documents supporting the supplier’s claim. It gives no measured value or test limit. A facility cannot infer a particular resistance or body-voltage result from those designations alone.
This limitation concerns the cited passage. It does not establish that supporting reports are unavailable from the manufacturer.
What documentation should the facility request?
Methods, measured results and applicable limits
ANSI/ESD S20.20-2021 requires qualification records for ESD control items to include the test method used, the results obtained and the test limits, regardless of the qualification method the organization uses (section 7.3).
Request the supporting report or qualification documentation showing:
- The product or footwear/flooring combination tested.
- The test method and edition used.
- The measured results and applicable limits.
- The environmental conditioning and test conditions relevant to qualification.
A floor-resistance report and a footwear/flooring system report answer different questions. Confirm that the supplied documentation covers the measurement and combination the facility needs to qualify.
