Specs written as Dur-A-Flex Hybri-Flex EC map to Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring Hybri-Flex EC; the name carried over unchanged when Sherwin-Williams acquired Dur-A-Flex on July 1, 2022. EC is a hybrid, not a plain urethane cement. The base coat brings the moisture tolerance of the Poly-Crete line, while the broadcast and grout layers build a decorative vinyl chip finish that industrial urethane cement systems do not carry. The typical buyer arrives holding a finish schedule. EC earns its place on that schedule where the slab is fresh, damp, or salt-contaminated and the finish still has to be a chip floor; the washdown-grade work stays with the industrial Poly-Crete line.

Nominal 1/8 to 3/16 Inch, Shore D 75-80 Under the Chip Finish

The installed system runs a nominal 1/8 to 3/16 inch and reads industrial under the decorative finish. The current system overview lists Shore D hardness of 75-80 (ASTM D-2240), compressive strength of 16,000 psi (ASTM D-695), tensile strength of 3,700 psi (ASTM D-638), and a 400 psi bond to concrete (ASTM D-4541), a pull value at which the substrate fails before the bond does. Water absorption is 0.04% (ASTM D-570). Under MIL D-3134 the system shows no slip or flow at elevated temperature, a resistance-to-elevated-temperatures result rather than a thermal rating, and MIL F-52505 testing separately reports no cracking or loss of adhesion under thermal shock. Published slip values run above 0.6 static (ANSI B101.1) and above 0.42 wet DCOF (ANSI A326.3).

High-Moisture and Salt-Contaminated Slabs Are the Use Case

Moisture tolerance is the reason EC exists as a hybrid instead of a chip system on plain epoxy. Per the current system overview, the Poly-Crete SL body coat can be applied to high-moisture concrete and tolerates high soluble ion (salt) contamination, which takes fresh pours and rough existing slabs off the problem list. Preparation is a CSP 3-4 profile. Shot blasting is the preferred method, the system is self-priming in most applications, and the application instructions specify Poly-Crete TF primer first on very porous substrates. Craftsman still runs pre-install moisture and substrate testing, ASTM F2170 in-situ relative humidity where the schedule allows, because a documented baseline stands behind the installation record even under a moisture-tolerant system.

Formerly Dur-A-Flex Hybri-Flex EC, Never a FasTop

The name on this system barely moved while the names around it changed. Dur-A-Flex Hybri-Flex EC became Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring Hybri-Flex EC after the July 1, 2022 acquisition, with the product name retained outright. The renames landed at the accessory layer instead; the wear coat and grout coat now carry Resutile and Resuflor names, and the Key Specifications list above pairs each with the name legacy documents used. EC has no FasTop predecessor to map. The Hybri-Flex family absorbed several General Polymers FasTop decorative flake and quartz systems, but no single FasTop code routes to EC, and a spec carrying a FasTop decorative code is calling for a different system entirely.

Where EC Stops and Poly-Crete Starts

A spec that names Hybri-Flex EC usually arrived by one of two roads. Either a designer picked a chip floor that could survive a damp slab, or a facility standardized on Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring and EC is its decorative entry. Craftsman Concrete Floors is an authorized Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring installer; in-house W-2 crews mobilize nationwide and install the industrial siblings as well, so a project that pairs EC in public zones with Poly-Crete SLB, MDB, or HF in wet process areas runs through one installer. Kill floors and CIP-washed process bays are Poly-Crete territory. The boundary case worth a review is the back-of-house corridor that sees carts and occasional washdown, and that call gets made at spec review against the measured exposure.

Installed alone, Poly-Crete SL is an industrial self-leveling urethane cement at roughly 1/8 inch for processing environments; EC adds the double vinyl chip broadcast and a Resutile AT topcoat over it, trading washdown duty for a decorative finish at 1/8 to 3/16 inch. Pick EC for public-facing commercial and institutional space and a Poly-Crete system for washdown and process chemistry.

Full chemical and abrasion resistance occurs in 7 days at 70°F, per the application instructions. Recoat windows at 70°F run 6 hours minimum after the Poly-Crete SL body coat and 4 hours after the second broadcast. The Resuflor Glaze grout coat needs 10 hours before the topcoat goes down. Application is best between 60°F and 85°F.
