Sherwin-Williams Poly-Crete MD

  • Product: Sherwin-Williams Poly-Crete MD — 100% solids, aromatic, cementitious urethane self-leveling system, graded silica and fine fillers
  • Nominal Thickness: 3/16 to 1/4 inch
  • Finish: smooth self-leveling matte, uniform color; no topcoat required
  • Thermal: coefficient of thermal expansion similar to concrete — strongly thermal-shock resistant
  • Compliance: follows USDA, FDA, CFIA, ADA, and OSHA guidelines
  • Performance: bond exceeds 400 psi to prepared concrete — the slab fails before the bond (per Poly-Crete system data); resists the organic and inorganic acids, alkalis, and oils common to food plants; integral matte wear surface scrubs clean with no sacrificial coating to maintain
  • System Performance (Poly-Crete platform, per Sherwin-Williams system data):
    • – Compressive strength 9,000 psi (ASTM C579)
    • – Hardness Shore D 75–80 (ASTM D2240)
    • – Exact per-product values are on the embedded data sheet
  • Color: Poly-Crete system colors, 10 standard
  • Typical Uses: food and beverage processing, commercial kitchens, manufacturing, and warehouse floors needing a smooth surface that takes washdown heat and rolling traffic without a topcoat
  • Former Names: Dur-A-Flex Poly-Crete MD; General Polymers FasTop Multi Topfloor SL45
  • Authorized Installer: Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring; in-house W-2 crews mobilize nationwide

Sherwin-Williams Poly-Crete MD is a 3/16 to 1/4 inch, 100% solids, aromatic, cementitious urethane concrete coating system blended with graded silica and fine fillers to produce a self-leveling matte finish of uniform color. It needs no topcoat, and its coefficient of thermal expansion is similar to concrete, making it strongly thermal-shock resistant. It is the medium-duty smooth self-leveling member of the Poly-Crete line — a thicker, tougher floor than Poly-Crete SL while keeping a smooth finish. If your specification still reads Dur-A-Flex Poly-Crete MD or the older General Polymers FasTop Multi Topfloor SL45, this is the same system under its current Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring name. Craftsman Concrete Floors installs Poly-Crete MD nationwide as an authorized Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring installer.

About Sherwin-Williams Poly-Crete MD

Poly-Crete MD is the medium-duty smooth self-leveling system in the Poly-Crete cementitious urethane line — thicker and tougher than Poly-Crete SL, but still a smooth, no-topcoat finish.

Smooth Self-Leveling at 3/16 to 1/4 Inch, No Topcoat

Poly-Crete MD is blended with graded silica and fine fillers and pours self-level to a uniform-color matte finish at 3/16 to 1/4 inch. Because the wear surface is integral, it requires no separate topcoat. It is the smooth counterpart to the broadcast Poly-Crete MDB: where a floor needs slip resistance, MDB adds a natural quartz broadcast at 1/4 inch; where a smooth surface is wanted at medium-duty thickness, MD is the specification.

Compliance, Adhesion, and Thermal Shock

Poly-Crete MD follows USDA, FDA, CFIA, ADA, and OSHA guidelines. Adhesion to properly prepared concrete runs past 400 psi — the slab gives out before the bond does — and because the wear surface is integral, maintenance is scrubbing, not recoating. Its coefficient of thermal expansion is close to concrete, so it moves with the slab and resists thermal shock — relevant for washdown and temperature-cycling areas. The published Poly-Crete platform carries a 9,000 psi compressive strength (ASTM C579); exact figures for this build are on the embedded data sheet.

Formerly Dur-A-Flex Poly-Crete MD and FasTop Multi Topfloor SL45

The 2025 Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring branding transition is where the FasTop name went: it consolidated the General Polymers urethane cement line into Poly-Crete, mapping FasTop Multi Topfloor SL45 to Poly-Crete MD. The Dur-A-Flex history is simpler — Sherwin-Williams acquired Dur-A-Flex on July 1, 2022, and Poly-Crete MD kept its name. A specification under either legacy name installs as the current Poly-Crete MD, and Craftsman confirms the mapping at pre-bid review.

Frequently Asked Questions

Poly-Crete MD is a medium-duty smooth self-leveling urethane cement floor for food and beverage processing, commercial kitchens, manufacturing, and warehouses that need a smooth, thermal-shock-resistant surface without a separate topcoat. For a slip-resistant version, Poly-Crete MDB adds a natural quartz broadcast.

Poly-Crete MD is applied at 3/16 to 1/4 inch and requires no topcoat — the wear surface is integral to the system. It is thicker than the 1/8-inch Poly-Crete SL.

It is the current Sherwin-Williams High Performance Flooring name for the system formerly sold as Dur-A-Flex Poly-Crete MD, and before that within the General Polymers FasTop Multi Topfloor SL45 line.

Poly-Crete MD follows USDA, FDA, CFIA, ADA, and OSHA guidelines, and its seamless, easy-to-clean surface supports the sanitation requirements of food and beverage facilities. The applicable documentation is confirmed per project during specification.

Both are 100% solids cementitious urethane at medium-duty thickness. Poly-Crete MD is a smooth self-leveling matte finish; Poly-Crete MDB adds a natural quartz broadcast for a slip-resistant surface at 1/4 inch. Choose MD for a smooth floor, MDB where wet or greasy conditions require grip.
